Custom Foot Orthotics

Custom foot orthotics can be an effective method of correcting faulty lower extremity (leg and foot) mechanics.

Pes planus, or flat feet, can cause over pronation at the subtalor joint (foot and ankle region). This creates a potentially painful condition due to excessive motion occurring at the foot, ankle, knee and/or hip. Pain may be evident in any of these areas as well as in the lower back. Wearing custom foot orthotics can reduce excessive motion and improve "alignment" of the lower extremity relieving pain caused by excessive motion.

Stiffness and limited mobility are characteristics of pes cavus, or high arches. This also can cause foot or heel pain. A foot orthotic with extra cushioning may be required to absorb shock and support the high arch. In addition to providing the proper foot orthotic for your condition, your physical therapist can also assist you in selecting the appropriate footwear.
